Gyotaku is an ancient Japanese art form which grew from the need for fishermen to prove the size of their largest catch in a world before photography. Gyo meaning fish, and Taku meaning rubbing or impression is pronounced GEE-OH-TAH-KOO. This very basic printing technique developed over 200 years ago has changed very little over time. Our gesso and wood frames are hand finished by craftsmen using traditional 17th century Florentine techniques. This frame is hand finished in a lemon silver.
